FR À la suite de notre appel à candidatures sur le thème de la « street photography », nous sommes ravis de vous présenter les photographies sélectionnées pour cette exposition exceptionnelle. Cette exposition commune réunit des talents venant du monde entier, capturant l’essence de la vie urbaine. Chaque artiste, à sa manière unique, nous offre sa vision personnelle et contemporaine de la photographie de rue. Leurs images, toutes réalisées sur film argentique, révèlent des regards modernes et profonds, explorant les rues avec une sensibilité révélatrice. Nous vous invitons à plonger dans cet univers visuel captivant et à découvrir les différentes perspectives qui émergent de cette collection inspirante. NL Naar aanleiding van onze oproep voor inzendingen met het thema «straatfotografie», zijn we verheugd om u de geselecteerde foto’s voor deze uitzonderlijke tentoonstelling te presenteren. Deze gezamenlijke tentoonstelling brengt talenten van over de hele wereld samen en vangt de essentie van het stadsleven. Elke kunstenaar biedt op zijn unieke manier zijn persoonlijke en eigentijdse kijk op straatfotografie. Hun beelden, allemaal vastgelegd op analoge film, onthullen moderne en diepgaande perspectieven, waarbij de straten worden verkend met een openbarend gevoeligheid. We nodigen u uit om onder te dompelen in deze boeiende visuele wereld en de verschillende perspectieven te ontdekken die opkomen uit deze inspirerende collectie. EN "Happiness has deeply permeated our cultural imagination, to the point of occupying a central place in our lives. Type 'happiness' into a search engine, and you'll get hundreds of thousands of results. Just before the turn of the century, Amazon listed three hundred books with the term in their titles; today, there are over two thousand. It is undeniable that the concept of happiness now plays a fundamental role in our understanding of ourselves and the world. It has become so familiar that it is considered taken for granted, so natural that it has lost all strangeness; there would even be some eccentricity, some true audacity in daring to question it."

FR « Le bonheur a profondément imprégné notre imaginaire culturel, jusqu’à occuper une place centrale dans nos existences. Tapez «bonheur» dans un moteur de recherche, et vous obtiendrez des centaines de milliers d’occurrences. Juste avant le tournant du siècle, on recensait chez Amazon trois cents livres dont le titre comportait le terme en question; aujourd’hui, on en compte plus de deux mille. Force est d’admettre que la notion de bonheur joue désormais un rôle fondamental dans la compréhension que nous nous faisons de nous même et du monde. Elle est devenu si familière qu’elle est considérée comme parfaitement acquise, si naturelle qu’elle en a perdu toute espèce d’étrangeté ; il y aurait même quelque excentricité, quelque audace véritable à oser la remettre en question. »

NL "Geluk heeft diep doorgedrongen in onze culturele verbeelding, tot het punt waarop het een centrale plaats in ons leven inneemt. Typ 'geluk' in een zoekmachine en je krijgt honderdduizenden resultaten. Net voor de eeuwwisseling stonden er bij Amazon driehonderd boeken met deze term in de titel; vandaag zijn dat er meer dan tweeduizend. Het is onbetwistbaar dat het concept van geluk nu een fundamentele rol speelt in ons begrip van onszelf en de wereld. Het is zo vertrouwd geworden dat het als vanzelfsprekend wordt beschouwd, zo natuurlijk dat het alle vreemdheid heeft verloren; het zou zelfs enige eigenzinnigheid, enige echte durf vergen om het in twijfel te trekken."

Collective exhibition: Julien Magre, Dolorès Marat & Gaël Bonnefon

EN For the 2024 edition of the PhotoBrussels Festival, Baxton Gallery has the honor of hosting three prominent photographers. Dolorès Marat, who creates a personal body of work filled with enigmas and strange atmospheres, seductive and sensual figures, and scenarios with no way out. Julien Magre, for whom photography thrives through books, an object that one can hold in their hands and manipulate to make it their own. Gaël Bonnefon, whose images trace a sort of personal documentary that navigates unconscious situations for a fiction firmly anchored in his everyday life. excerpt from the introduction to the «About Decline» exhibition at Château d’Eau in 2012.

FR Pour l’édition 2024 du PhotoBrussels Festival, la galerie Baxton à l’honneur d’accueillir trois grands photographes. Dolorès Marat qui signe une œuvre personnelle peuplée d’énigmes et d’ambiances étranges, de figures séduisantes et sensuelles et de scénarios sans issue. Julien Magre pour qui la photographie existe et s’épanouit par le livre, un objet que l’on peut tenir dans ses mains et manipuler afin de le faire sien. Enfin, le photographe Gaël Bonnefon ; « ses images tracent une sorte de documentaire personnel qui sillonne des situations inconscientes pour une fiction qui s’ancre dans son quotidien. » Extrait, introduction à l’exposition About Decline au Château d’Eau en 2012.
