Chemin faisant - Budapest, New York et le monde - Sylvia Plachy (HU, 1943)
22 January - 12 March 2027
Haar werk verscheen onder meer in The New Yorker, The New York Times, Vogue en Newsweek, en is opgenomen in belangrijke internationale collecties. Tot haar fotoboeken behoren Unguided Tour en Self Portrait with Cows Going Home. Haar werk wordt nog steeds wereldwijd tentoongesteld.
EN The story of Sylvia Plachy's Life and her photography speak of the same thing: how to find home, how to turn loss into curiosity, alienation into freedom, uncertainty into security, and life into images. Perhaps this is why, when we look at her photographs, we feel that we are not merely entering her world, but that her images touch what we carry within ourselves. Her photographs do not simply record reality; they transform glances, faces, gestures and fleeting moments into something deeply personal. It is as if they say: Look, and you will see! Along the Way traces a journey between places, times and states of mind. Budapest, her childhood city, remains a landscape of memory, carried with her when she left Hungary at thirteen after the 1956 Revolution. Plachy studied photography at Pratt Institute and was mentored by André Kertész. From 1974, she worked for three decades at the Village Voice, creating Sylvia Plachy’s Unguided Tour. Her work has appeared in The New Yorker, The New York Times, Vogue and Newsweek, and is held in major international collections. Her books include Unguided Tour and Self Portrait with Cows Going Home. Her work continues to be exhibited internationally.
