FR Leaving One For Another aborde les thèmes de la transmigration et explore les raisons diverses qui la sous-tendent : qu’il s’agisse de déplacements forcés au sein de communautés confrontées à une gentrification galopante, de la fuite de zones de conflit, ou simplement de la recherche de nouvelles opportunités, qu’elles soient financières ou liées à l’épanouissement personnel.
La série d’Olgaç Bozalp propose une perspective abstraite sur la réinstallation en mêlant des documentaires à des installations mises en scène. Ces installations présentent une collection d’objets symbolisant la vie et le parcours de chacun·e. À partir d’objets provenant de lieux abandonnés, nous analysons comment l’individu a vécu et comment il est contraint de renoncer à tout ce qu’il a accumulé au cours de sa vie dans sa quête d’une nouvelle existence. Les différents modes de transport constituent un thème récurrent tout au long de la série : qu’il s’agisse de traverser des cours d’eau ou de parcourir des distances à moto, cela illustre la manière dont les gens transportent physiquement leur vie, leur famille ainsi que leurs souvenirs au fil de leur périple.
NL Leaving One For Another draait om het thema transmigratie en onderzoekt de uiteenlopende redenen die hieraan ten grondslag liggen. Dat kan gaan om gedwongen verhuizing door toenemende gentrificatie, het ontvluchten van conflictgebieden, of simpelweg de zoektocht naar nieuwe kansen - of die nu financieel van aard zijn of gericht op zelfontplooiing.
De serie van Olgaç Bozalp benadert hervestiging vanuit een abstract perspectief, door documentaire fotografie te combineren met geënsceneerde installaties. Deze installaties tonen een verzameling voorwerpen die symbool staan voor iemands leven en reis. Aan de hand van objecten die op verlaten plekken zijn achtergelaten, analyseren we hoe een individu leefde en hoe een leven lang opgebouwde bezittingen noodgedwongen achterblijven in de zoektocht naar een nieuw bestaan.
Vervoersmiddelen vormen een terugkerend thema door de hele serie. Of het nu gaat om een reis over water of per motorfiets, het illustreert hoe mensen hun leven, hun gezin en hun herinneringen fysiek met zich meedragen tijdens hun reis.
EN Leaving One For Another approaches the themes of transmigration and explores the disparate reasons behind it; whether it be forced displacement in communities witnessing an uprising of gentrification or fleeing places of conflict; or simply in search of new opportunity, be it financial or self-expression.
The series of Olgaç Bozalp approaches an abstract perspective on resettlement by mixing documentaries with staged installations. These installations display a collection of objects symbolic of one’s life and journey. With objects used from sites of desertion, we analyse how the individual lived, and how a lifetime of accumulation is forced to be relinquished in their quest for a new life. The different modes of transportation are a common theme throughout the series, either by traversing on water or by motorcycle, it illustrates how people physically carry their lives, their families, as well as their memories through their passage.
