Bruxxxssels - Vincen Beeckman
22 January - 28 February 2027
EN Bruxxxssels is Vincen Beeckman’s first major solo exhibition in his hometown. The exhibition offers an insight into three long-term projects. In Prison, the photographer aims primarily to act as a bridge between the inside and the outside at the village of Haren and its prison. In Let people talk, he immersed himself for years in the working-class nightlife of neighbourhood bars surrounding Brussels South station. Castle made of Sand reflects a long-standing commitment to Le Petit Château and the Fedasil center at Bordet—two major reception centers in central Brussels. Refugees, displaced persons, and the uprooted have a long held special place in Vincen Beeckman’s work.
Following earlier Brussels-based projects such as Cracks and Claude and Lily, Beeckman once again demonstrates his mastery of image-gathering and the capture of spontaneous, sometimes intimate moments. The photographer highlights the experiences of people who are too often overlooked. Establishing a connection with people is a conditio sine qua non of Beeckman’s work. This is achieved through regular presence -not merely to observe, but to be truly there, listening to stories and sharing moments of genuine connection.
