Artist Talk : Gold — Matthieu and Mathieu
6.30PM- 8PM
A conversation on value in contemporary art, moderated by Dr. Christoph Rausch
Following the opening on Saturday 24 January of an extension of (Not) All Is Gold at the bar of Cloud Seven, presenting an additional work by Céline Matthieu (b. 1989) alongside Matthieu Laurette’s (b. 1970) 50 Things Purchased with Funds Provided by Frédéric de Goldschmidt, both artists engage in a public conversation.
Their practices critically engage with the value systems of the art world, questioning notions of authorship, copyright, and the role of the collector, while examining how artistic value is produced, perceived, and negotiated.
The conversation is moderated by Dr. Christoph Rausch, professor of economics at Maastricht University, whose research focuses on the relationships between art and value. He is currently finalizing a book titled Better than Gold: Art in Storage and the Making of Financial Value.
The discussion is followed by an informal drink.
