Artist Talk / Matthieu and Mathieu: Better Than Gold

On the occasion of the PhotoBrussels Festival, Céline Mathieu (b. 1989) and Matthieu Laurette (b. 1970) will present photographic works at Cloud Seven that extend the exhibition (Not) All Is Gold. Their contributions explore the systems of value that surround art and the figure of the artist, from questioning the role of the collector to examining authorship, copyright, and the production of value.

On 29 January, they will discuss these themes in a conversation dedicated to their respective practices and their shared interest in the connections between image, economy, and artistic creation. The talk will be moderated by Dr. Christoph Rausch, professor of economics at Maastricht University, whose research focuses on the relationships between art and value—both economic and financial.
