In between - Hervé Charles
20 January - 21 February 2027
EN Hervé Charles explores the ambiguity of photographic representation, primarily through the landscape and, more specifically, the natural landscape undergoing drastic change. Recently, he has been focusing on the traces left by natural disasters in unbuilt areas. Straddling photographic and ecological concerns, his large-format works play on the poetic immersion in devastated places.
To mark the festival, Hervé Charles will present a video installation and a series of photographs taken in a mining area in southern Spain at ajstudio.
By playing on both the transparency of certain images and the brightness of the video screen, the artist explores the physical properties of the medium, which reveal something of the very nature of photography itself, where light appears both as a condition of visibility and as a principle of creation.
Visible from the public space until midnight each day, this presentation of a disrupted natural landscape, set within a particularly dense urban environment, shifts the question of perspective into a space where the representation of the landscape, its perception and the very conditions of its visibility come into tension.
