FR L'œuvre du temps réunit trois regards, trois sensibilités, trois écritures photographiques qui, chacune à leur manière, interrogent la mémoire et le passage du temps.
Deux photographes nous replongent dans un passé lointain, capturé il y a quarante ou cinquante ans. Portraits intimes, scènes de voyage, fragments d’instants vécus… Autrefois immortalisés sur diapositives ou tirages papier, ces clichés ont traversé les années. Marqués par l’eau, l’humidité, les accidents de conservation, ils portent désormais les stigmates du temps passé. L’altération leur confère une poésie nouvelle : celle de la fragilité, du souvenir qui se dérobe et pourtant persiste.
Le troisième photographe nous emmène dans un univers plus expérimental. Ses œuvres en noir et blanc, travaillées avec des procédés anciens et des techniques volontairement délavées, parfois brouillées, explorent la matérialité de l’image et la mémoire qu’elle renferme. Le temps n’est pas seulement une empreinte, il devient un langage, une esthétique.
A travers ces trois univers, L'œuvre du temps nous invite à contempler les traces laissées par les années, à redécouvrir la beauté dans l’imperfection, à interroger notre propre rapport au passé. Chaque photographie devient un témoin silencieux : celui d’une époque révolue, mais aussi celui de la métamorphose des images et de leur capacité à raconter, encore et autrement, les histoires qu’elles portent.
NL L’oeuvre du temps verenigt drie blikken, drie gevoeligheden en drie fotografische handschriften — die elk op hun eigen manier de herinnering en het verstrijken van de tijd onderzoeken.
Twee fotografen nemen ons mee naar een ver verleden, vastgelegd veertig of vijftig jaar geleden. Intieme portretten, reisscènes, fragmenten van geleefde momenten… Ooit vereeuwigd op dia’s of fotografische afdrukken, hebben deze beelden de jaren doorstaan. Getekend door water, vocht en de sporen van veroudering, dragen ze nu de littekens van de tijd. Die aantasting schenkt hun een nieuwe poëzie — die van vergankelijkheid, van een herinnering die vervaagt maar blijft bestaan.
De derde fotograaf voert ons naar een meer experimenteel universum. Zijn zwart-witwerken, vervaardigd met oude procédés en bewust vervaagde of geblurde technieken, onderzoeken de materialiteit van het beeld en de herinnering die het bevat. De tijd is hier niet enkel een afdruk, maar wordt een taal, een esthetiek.
Via deze drie werelden nodigt Het werk van de tijd ons uit om de sporen van de jaren te beschouwen, de schoonheid van imperfectie te herontdekken en onze eigen relatie met het verleden te bevragen. Elke foto wordt een stille getuige — van een vervlogen tijd, maar ook van de metamorfose van beelden en hun blijvende vermogen om, steeds opnieuw en anders, de verhalen te vertellen die ze in zich dragen.
EN L’oeuvre du temps brings together three perspectives, three sensibilities, and three photographic voices — each, in its own way, questioning memory and the passage of time.
Two photographers take us back to a distant past, captured forty or fifty years ago. Intimate portraits, scenes from travel, fragments of lived moments… Once immortalized on slides or photographic prints, these images have crossed the years. Marked by water, humidity, and the accidents of preservation, they now bear the scars of time. These alterations lend them a new poetry — that of fragility, of memory slipping away yet stubbornly persisting.
The third photographer leads us into a more experimental realm. His black-and-white works, created using historical processes and deliberately faded or blurred techniques, explore the materiality of the image and the memory it holds. Time here is not only a trace — it becomes a language, an aesthetic.
Through these three worlds, The Work of Time invites us to contemplate the marks left by the years, to rediscover beauty in imperfection, and to question our own relationship with the past. Each photograph becomes a silent witness — to a vanished era, but also to the metamorphosis of images and their enduring ability to tell, again and differently, the stories they carry.
