FR Pour cette exposition Zone de contact essentiellement tournée vers la création photographique luxembourgeoise, la sélection s’est faite autour de photographes pionniers et de photographes plus actuels pour lesquels le médium photographique est riche de possibilités installatives. Différentes techniques et un panel d’usages plastiques sont ainsi présentés afin de construire un parcours, qui interroge la manière dont la photographie et le regard du photographe, mettent en relation et relient entre eux des objets, des corps, des lieux, des documents. Zone de contact est ainsi une exposition qui explore la multiplicité des lectures sociales, intimes et symboliques de notre monde par neuf photographes : Romain Urhausen, Laurianne Bixhain, Eric Chenal, Rozafa Elshan, Lisa Kohl, Armand Quetsch, Bruno Oliveira, Daniel Reuter, Daniel Wagener. Leur approche de l’image qu’elle soit réelle ou irréelle exprime chacune un milieu que l’on pourrait appeler une zone. Cette zone est un entre-deux qui traduit autant des formes d’imaginaire que des manières de voir et d’observer le réel. Voir et rendre compte par l’image est avant tout, pour cette sélection de photographes, chercher à retrouver de la proximité avec ce qui semble éloigné. Ces zones indécises où le regard du photographe se pose racontent ainsi les lignes d’un corps, les traces fragmentaires d’une histoire, la matérialité sensible d’un objet, la violence ou la douceur d’un geste, les micros dégradations d’un mur, la présence d’une pousse végétale dans l’environnent urbain. Ce désir d’entrer en relation par l’image résiste pour ces photographes, à une vision unifiée de la réalité. En définitive, ils tentent chacun à leur façon, de construire des zones de contact comme on refait du lien.

EN For this exhibition Zone de contact, which is primarily focused on contemporary photographic creation in Luxembourg, the selection brings together pioneering photographers and more recent artists for whom the photographic medium offers a wide range of installative possibilities. Various techniques and artistic approaches are presented in order to create a journey that questions how photography—and the photographer’s gaze—connect and relate objects, bodies, places, and documents to one another. Zone de contact is thus an exhibition that explores the multiplicity of social, intimate, and symbolic readings of our world through the work of nine photographers: Romain Urhausen, Laurianne Bixhain, Eric Chenal, Rozafa Elshan, Lisa Kohl, Armand Quetsch, Bruno Oliveira, Daniel Reuter, and Daniel Wagener. Their approach to the image—whether real or unreal—each expresses an environment that could be described as a zone. This zone is an in-between space that conveys both forms of imagination and ways of seeing and observing reality. For this selection of photographers, seeing and bearing witness through images is above all an attempt to regain closeness with what seems distant. These indeterminate zones where the photographer’s gaze settles recount the lines of a body, the fragmentary traces of a story, the tangible materiality of an object, the violence or gentleness of a gesture, the subtle decay of a wall, or the presence of a plant shoot in the urban environment. This desire to connect through the image resists, for these photographers, any unified vision of reality. Ultimately, each in their own way seeks to construct zones of contact—as a way of recreating connection.

NL Voor deze tentoonstelling Zone de contact, die hoofdzakelijk gericht is op de Luxemburgse fotografische creatie, is de selectie opgebouwd rond zowel pionierende fotografen als hedendaagse kunstenaars voor wie het fotografische medium rijk is aan installatieve mogelijkheden. Verschillende technieken en een scala aan plastische benaderingen worden gepresenteerd om een parcours te creëren dat onderzoekt hoe fotografie – en de blik van de fotograaf – objecten, lichamen, plaatsen en documenten met elkaar in verband brengen.
Zone de contact is zo een tentoonstelling die de veelheid aan sociale, intieme en symbolische lezingen van onze wereld verkent via het werk van negen fotografen: Romain Urhausen, Laurianne Bixhain, Eric Chenal, Rozafa Elshan, Lisa Kohl, Armand Quetsch, Bruno Oliveira, Daniel Reuter en Daniel Wagener. Hun benadering van het beeld – of dat nu reëel of irreëel is – drukt telkens een omgeving uit die men een zone zou kunnen noemen. Deze zone is een tussengebied dat zowel vormen van verbeelding als manieren van kijken en observeren van de werkelijkheid weergeeft. Voor deze selectie fotografen betekent zien en verslag doen via het beeld vooral het zoeken naar nabijheid met datgene wat veraf lijkt. Deze onbepaalde zones, waar de blik van de fotograaf op rust, vertellen over de lijnen van een lichaam, de fragmentarische sporen van een geschiedenis, de tastbare materialiteit van een object, de geweldigheid of zachtheid van een gebaar, de subtiele aantasting van een muur of de aanwezigheid van een plantenscheut in de stedelijke omgeving. Dit verlangen om via het beeld in relatie te treden, verzet zich voor deze fotografen tegen een eenduidige visie op de werkelijkheid. Uiteindelijk probeert ieder op zijn of haar eigen manier contactzones te creëren – als een manier om opnieuw verbinding te maken.
