FR UNE SEULE MONTAGNE offre un aperçu du travail prolifique du photographe Alexandre Christiaens au cours des dernières décennies.
Si son travail est profondément stratifié, l'exposition solo, curatée par l’éditeur Bruno Devos (Hopper&Fuchs), vise à rendre ces strates tangibles. Elles se voient attribuer un espace et des mots, se révélant à travers les dialogues qui naissent lorsque l'on rassemble des œuvres qui portent en elles des années d'existence. Parallèlement, l'exposition donne un aperçu du processus de création du livre du même nom, sur lequel l’éditeur et le photographe collaborent actuellement de manière intensive.
Tout comme l'exposition est conçue pour offrir un aperçu approfondi du travail et de la pratique photographique d’Alexandre Christiaens, le livre complet rassemble également des images de son œuvre, en dialogue avec les propres écrits du photographe et les réflexions sur son travail de la part de voix pertinentes de son entourage.
L’exposition vise également à réfléchir sur la photographie en tant que médium et la place de l’édition dans sa représentation. La bibliothèque de la galerie proposera une sélection de livres photo édités par HOPPER&FUCHS, la maison d'édition du curateur Bruno Devos.
NL UNE SEULE MONTAGNE biedt een overzicht van het omvangrijke werk van fotograaf Alexandre Christiaens over de afgelopen decennia.
Hoewel zijn werk diep gelaagd is, streeft de solotentoonstelling, gecureerd door uitgever Bruno Devos (Hopper&Fuchs), ernaar deze lagen tastbaar te maken. Ze krijgen ruimte en woorden, en onthullen zich via de dialogen die ontstaan wanneer werken die jaren van bestaan dragen, samen worden gebracht. Tegelijkertijd geeft de tentoonstelling inzicht in het creatieproces van het gelijknamige boek, waaraan de uitgever en de fotograaf momenteel intensief samenwerken.
Net zoals de tentoonstelling is ontworpen om een diepgaand overzicht te bieden van Alexandre Christiaens’ fotografische werk en praktijk, zal het volledige boek ook afbeeldingen uit zijn oeuvre samenbrengen, in dialoog met de eigen teksten van de fotograaf en reflecties op zijn werk van relevante stemmen uit zijn omgeving.
De tentoonstelling nodigt ook uit tot reflectie over fotografie als medium en de rol van publicatie in de representatie ervan. De bibliotheek van de galerie zal een selectie van fotoboeken tonen, uitgegeven door HOPPER&FUCHS, de uitgeverij van curator Bruno Devos.
EN UNE SEULE MONTAGNE offers an overview of the prolific work of photographer Alexandre Christiaens over the past decades.
While his work is deeply layered, the solo exhibition, curated by publisher Bruno Devos (Hopper&Fuchs), aims to make these layers tangible. They are given space and words, revealing themselves through the dialogues that emerge when works carrying years of existence are brought together. At the same time, the exhibition provides insight into the creation process of the book of the same name, on which the publisher and the photographer are currently collaborating intensively.
Just as the exhibition is designed to offer an in-depth view of Alexandre Christiaens’ photographic work and practice, the complete book will also gather images from his oeuvre, in dialogue with the photographer’s own writings and reflections on his work from relevant voices in his circle.
The exhibition also encourages reflection on photography as a medium and the role of publishing in its representation. The gallery library will feature a selection of photo books published by HOPPER&FUCHS, the publishing house of curator Bruno Devos.
