FR Né à Curaçao (Antilles Néerlandaises), Jair Marc Castillo a déménagé d'un endroit à l'autre, entre différents pays et continents. Parfois, il s'y sentait chez lui, mais d'autres fois, ce n'était pas le cas. Aujourd'hui, il traduit ce déracinement profond en un voyage visuel clairement basé sur la recherche de son appartenance, de son identité et de ses origines. Être sur la route est devenu un état d'esprit, quelque chose qui ne s'arrête jamais. Il capture chaque mouvement et chaque rencontre dans des images en noir et blanc. Le noir et blanc le pousse vers l'émotion pure et met l'accent sur la forme et la texture, rendant le mouvement dans l'image fixe encore plus proéminent. Avec ses choix esthétiques, tels que les nombreuses nuances de tons gris, il veut que le spectateur se perde dans les détails et entre ainsi dans son univers stratifié. Ses images ouvrent un dialogue sur l'identité, les origines et le sentiment d'appartenance. Elles créent des espaces où des questions émergent, où des émotions complexes et des expériences partagées sont reconnues. Son langage poétique est un voyage et offre l'occasion de réfléchir aux multiples facettes de l'identité. Face à la complexité de notre expérience humaine, il invite chacun à rechercher le sens du symbolisme dans ses images. Son travail est une recherche de connexion, de compréhension, d'un sentiment d'appartenance dans un monde en constante évolution.

NL Geboren op Curaçao (Nederlandse Antillen), heeft Jaïr Marc Castillo van plek naar plek gereisd, over verschillende landen en continenten. Soms voelde hij zich thuis, andere keren niet. Vandaag vertaalt hij deze diepgaande ontworteling in een visuele reis, duidelijk gebaseerd op de zoektocht naar zijn gevoel van behoren, identiteit en afkomst. Op reis zijn is een gemoedstoestand geworden, iets dat nooit stopt. Hij legt elke beweging en ontmoeting vast in zwart-witbeelden. Zwart-wit brengt hem bij pure emotie en legt de nadruk op vorm en textuur, waardoor beweging binnen een stilstaand beeld nog prominenter wordt. Met zijn esthetische keuzes, zoals de vele schakeringen van grijs, nodigt hij de kijker uit om zich te verliezen in de details en zo zijn gelaagde universum binnen te treden. Zijn beelden openen een dialoog over identiteit, afkomst en het gevoel van erbij horen. Ze creëren ruimtes waar vragen ontstaan en waar complexe emoties en gedeelde ervaringen worden erkend. Zijn poëtische taal is een reis en biedt de gelegenheid om na te denken over de vele facetten van identiteit. Geconfronteerd met de complexiteit van onze menselijke ervaring, nodigt hij iedereen uit om de betekenis van symboliek in zijn beelden te zoeken. Zijn werk is een zoektocht naar verbinding, begrip en een gevoel van erbij horen in een voortdurend veranderende wereld.

EN Borned in Curaçao (Netherlands Antilles), Jaïr Marc Castillo moved from one place to another, between different countries and continents. Sometimes he felt at home there, but other times he didn’t. Today, he translates this ingrained uprooting and the further desire to stay on the road into a visual journey clearly based on the search for one’s own belonging, identity, and origin. Being on the road became a state of mind, something that never stops. He captures every movement and encounter in black and white images. Black and white pushes him towards pure emotion and emphasizes form and texture, making the movement in the still image even more prominent. With his aesthetic choices, such as the many nuances of grey tones, he wants the viewer to lose himself in detail and thus enter his layered universe. His images open a dialogue about identity, origins and feeling of home. They create spaces where questions emerge, complex emotions and shared experiences are acknowledged. His poetic language is a journey and offers the opportunity to reflect on the many layers of identity. With the complexity of our human experience, he invites everyone to search for the meaning of the symbolism in his images. An individual introspection that connects with his world. His work is a search for connection, understanding, a sense of home in a world that is constantly changing.
